What is an Agreement for Hourly Employee?

Under an employment agreement for hourly employees, a company hires employees ready to be called to work at irregular or flexible times. It is also called a “zero-hour contract” or “casual employment contract” if the employee is hired on a work-as-needed basis, i.e. the employer is not obliged to provide any minimum working hours. In this case, however, the employee has the right to work for another company when their services are not required.

The company typically pays the employee a salary based on the hours served rather than a fixed monthly salary. This type of employment agreement is used across a wide range of industries, for example in construction or retail, where activities are cyclical and businesses need flexibility. Usually, the goal is to meet the employer’s staffing needs during peak business hours.
