What is a Short Employment Agreement?

With this short (or individual) employment agreement, a company (employer) hires employees on standard terms and conditions. Individual employment relationships are generally subject to general terms and conditions of employment, which are typically laid down in staff regulations. Depending on the industry or region, further employment conditions may be contained in a collective labor agreement (CLA). The latter is an agreement between employers’ and employees’ associations that defines working conditions for industries on a regional or national level.

The staff regulations usually define the most important working conditions such as the probationary period, notice periods, holiday entitlement, paid leaves, workplace conduct, rules regarding remote work, etc. The CLA often sets out minimum requirements regarding pay, protection against unfair dismissal, job skills, etc.

The individual employment agreements, on the other hand, only specify the individual aspects and main rights and obligations, in particular the salary, the workload, the job description, and the starting date. The general terms and conditions of employment and, if applicable, the applicable CLA form part of the individual employment agreements.
